Watch: Aditya-Shraddha sensuously revisit Humma Humma for OK Jaanu

humma-song-1

‘The Humma Song’ from Shaad Ali’s Ok Jaanu does not need a Sonali Bendre and a Nagendra Prasad to spice up the visuals. In the rehashed version, the lead pair Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur recreate the bedroom scene of the original one from Mani Ratnam’s Bombay but unlike that one, the new ‘Humma’ song does not turn into an item song.

The intimacy of a bedroom scene is kept intact in ‘The Humma Song’ as Aditya and Shraddha engage in foreplay. Some of the tender wavy moves on the screen go well with the track and the mood of the song. The tint of pink added to the visuals complement the setting and bring freshness to the cinematography.

Another noticeable aspect, in the audio, is that unlike most of the remixes of old songs these days, this one does not increase the pace of the rhythm. On the contrary, the music composers Badshah and Tanishk Bagchi lower down the pace of this classic song by AR Rahman in order to get in tune with the atmosphere.

This song has been touted by the maker as the perfect fusion between the north and the south, alluding to Badshah’s rap and Rahman’s melody from the original song. However, the blend is not as smooth as Shraddha gyrating her waist effortlessly. Similarly, though the song starts on a smooth note, the road gets bumpy with some abrupt dance moves by Aditya and Shradhha who seem to try too hard in some of the shots.

Overall, ‘The Humma Song’ lacks the energy of the original but that is only because it does not intend to compete with the classic. What it aims to do is to present the song in a new rosy light that is sure to set temperatures soaring.
